Tonight saw my Galaga cab project come to an end. The final touches done, and it’s ready to bring home. Firstly, the internal wiring was tidied up. The ‘step’ at the back encloses the 240V in (from the IEC switch, through the fuse, to the EMI filter and varistor and then to the powerboard. The powerboard supplies power to the marquee light and switcher. The small cube at the back is the earthing block. I’m really happy with how tidy it looks. There is plenty of room in there.

First on the hit list tonight was the marquee. The artwork is printed onto the back of a thin piece of acrylic (around 3mm thick). I have placed a second piece (also 3mm) behind it to help protect the artwork itself. Holes were drilled into the brackets, and then into the frame. It has come up looking awesome!
Another successful night tonight. After 4 months of planning, designing, purchasing, and finally building, the cab was powered on with the game board attached. It was a great moment to see… the image upside down.. 🙁
Some good progress was made tonight. The big milestone. The cab has power! (and nothing blew up!). But first up, the screen has been installed. The monitor has been moved into it’s final position, and the acrylic overlay and artwork can now sit on top. A cross bar (bit of pine) sits at the base and has been cut to put some pressure against the base of the acrylic. The control panel will sit on the other side, and the join will be hidden with some black t molding I have.
I have been working on and off at night after the kids are in bed. Getting in an hour or two here or there is helping things along. The printer completed the screen artwork late last week (just after Easter). So I had a quick drive out to pick it up Saturday morning. I’m really happy with how it has come up. He has laminated it on to the acrylic, so it’s ready to go 🙂
