Something that didn’t quite make it into my update last night was looking at an issue with the drop targets. I rebuilt them recently, but noticed a problem once complete. The targets sit a bit too high when they retract, which causes them to sit over the top of the playfield. This causes the ball to jump when hitting them – especially on the right target. Not good for the life of the drop target, and puts the plastic above it at risk of damage.
The cause of this is the small metal reset plate which pushed the targets back up when the coil fires. I did note that the plate was looking a little worse for wear when I rebuilt the assembly a few weeks back, but didn’t investigate at the time. As you can see, both ends are raised – which is what was pushing the targets above the top of the playfield.
The part can still be purchased new so I ordered a new one. I felt this the best option given the damage to the old one.
With the new plate installed and the drop target assembly put back together, the targets now sit right at the level of the playfield and no more jumping ball when it rolls over them (which I’m sure the plastic piece that sits above them is thankful for).
